Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 9, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how the Mend app (the “App”) handles information. The App is operated by an independent individual developer (“we,” “us,” or “our”), not by a company. Mend is a breakup-recovery tool, and we built it to be private: your journal entries and the messages you write in “Talk to Ex” never leave your device, and we don't require an account.

By using the App, you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

1. The short version

  • We do not require an account. There is no name, email, or password to create to use the App.
  • Your journal entries and “Talk to Ex” messages stay on your device and are never uploaded to us or sent to anyone.
  • To back up and restore your progress, a small amount of non-identifying data (your streak, badges, goal, and onboarding answers) is stored under an anonymous ID.
  • We do not sell your data, show you ads, or use your writing to train AI.

2. Information we process

(a) Content that stays on your device

Your journal entries and the messages you write in the “Talk to Ex” space are stored locally on your device only. They are not transmitted to our servers, are not readable by us, and are removed when you delete them or uninstall the App.

(b) Progress data (synced anonymously)

So your progress can be restored if you reinstall, we store a small set of non-identifying data linked to a random anonymous identifier: your no-contact streak dates and best-streak record, reset (relapse) timestamps, milestone badges, your chosen goal and optional first name, and the answers you gave during onboarding (such as your reason and how you're feeling). This data is not linked to your name, email, or any social account.

(c) An anonymous identifier and authentication

The App generates a random identifier and uses anonymous authentication to securely connect to our backend. This does not identify you personally and is not tied to a name, email, or social login.

(d) Subscription information

If you buy a subscription, the transaction is handled by the Apple App Store. We (through our subscription provider) receive your subscription status and a non-identifying purchase identifier so we can unlock premium features. We do not receive or store your payment-card details.

(e) Support communications

If you email us, we receive your email address and the contents of your message so we can respond.

(f) Limited technical data

Our infrastructure providers may process limited technical information (such as device type, app version, and timestamps) as a normal part of operating and securing the App.

We do not knowingly collect more personal information than is necessary to provide the App.

3. What stays on your device

This is central to how Mend works. The most personal things you write, your journal and your unsent “Talk to Ex” messages, are stored only on your device. We never upload them, never read them, and never send them anywhere. They remain under your control and are deleted if you remove them in the App or uninstall it. Notifications and reminders are scheduled locally on your device.

4. How we use information

  • To run the App and its core features (streak tracking, journaling, urge tools);
  • To back up and restore your progress under your anonymous ID;
  • To manage subscriptions and unlock premium features;
  • To operate, secure, and troubleshoot the App;
  • To respond to your support requests; and
  • To comply with legal obligations and prevent abuse or misuse.

We do not use your content for advertising, and we do not use it to train AI models.

5. Legal bases (where applicable, e.g. EEA/UK)

Where data-protection law requires a legal basis, we rely on: performance of a contract (to provide the features you request, including subscriptions and progress backup); our legitimate interests (to secure and improve the App and prevent abuse); and, where relevant, your consent. You can withdraw consent at any time by discontinuing use of the App.

6. Service providers and sub-processors

We use a small number of trusted third parties to operate the App. They process information only as needed to provide their service to us:

  • Google Firebase (Google Cloud): anonymous authentication and cloud storage of your non-identifying progress data (streak, badges, goal, onboarding answers) for backup and restore.
  • RevenueCat: manages and verifies your subscription entitlement.
  • Apple: processes your purchase through the App Store and provides the platform the App runs on.

We do not send your journal or “Talk to Ex” messages to any third party or AI provider. Each provider operates under its own terms and privacy commitments; we encourage you to review the policies of Google, RevenueCat, and Apple.

7. Data retention

Your on-device content (journal and unsent messages) is kept on your device for as long as you keep it. Your anonymous progress data is retained so it can be restored, until you request deletion or the data is removed. Our service providers may retain limited technical or transaction records for the period required to operate their services, ensure security, and meet legal obligations.

8. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information, including encrypted transport and access-controlled storage scoped to your anonymous session. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. International data transfers

Our providers may process information on servers located in the United States and other countries. By using the App, you understand that your information may be processed outside your country of residence, where data-protection laws may differ.

10. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of your personal information, to object to processing, and to data portability. Because your journal and messages live only on your device and we hold no account-identifying data, the most direct way to delete on-device data is to remove it in the App or uninstall the App. To request deletion of your anonymous progress data or make any other request, contact us at mend-app@outlook.com, and we will respond as required by applicable law.

11. Children’s privacy

The App is not intended for children. You must be at least 17 years old to use it, and it is not directed to anyone under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

12. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice in the App. Your continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.

13. Contact us

If you have questions or requests about this Privacy Policy or your information, contact the developer at mend-app@outlook.com.
